It's been so long since I've done a Green Tip Tuesday! This is one of my favorite verses about Jesus and his attitude about prayer - he liked to get away from it all and be in nature. Me too, Jesus! Me too! Do you have a nature touchpoint? A spot that you visit often outside that changes with the seasons? This touch point can be nearly anything - a garden, a specific tree, a hiking trail - anything! I have a tree on my normal park district path that I always stop to visit. I look up and try to see how the leaves are changing, if any branches have broken, if there are any birds' nests that I haven't noticed before. I'm so encouraged to hear about the University of Reading's football jerseys that are emblazed with the "warming stripes" to bring more awareness to our climate crisis. "Each stripe represents the average temperature for a single year, relative to the average temperature over the period as a whole; shades of blue indicate cooler-than-average years, while red shows years that were hotter than average. And the stripes on the home shirt specifically track climate change in Reading across the full 151-year existence of Reading Football Club." Hebrews 10: 24 is a well-loved verse. It's widely used to encourage believers to do good in the world. I want to use it to also encourage fellow Christians to do good FOR the world, too. I’m posting again about the @biologosorg science and faith Integrate Curriculum. If you are an educator or parent wanting to help your middle schooler or high schooler connect their faith with nature, I can’t encourage you enough to check out Integrate. Perfect for Valentine's Day! Love one another for love comes from God - 1 John 4:7. I think the subtext here is love EVERYONE. "One another" means we're all part of one big world family and we should love that entire fam! I’ve partnered with @biologosorg to show off their science and faith Integrate Curriculum this month. As a writer a bit obsessed with creation care, I was drawn most to the last three units focusing on nature. The 15 units (broken into three modules) provide videos, interviews with scientists, related scripture, assignments, and a devotion for each unit. The curriculum is designed for high school biology students but can be adapted for grade six to early college. It can be adapted to large or small groups of students and used in a Christian school or home school setting. It is not meant to be a standalone science curriculum but a wonderful addition. Another super old quote from St. John of Damascus, a monk and writer who lived in the 600s. He was big on "icons" and symbolism. I love considering our world as a representation of God!
